Carbs Are Your New Best Friend
Carbohydrates have been getting a lot of flack. I am sure most people who read this blog post have been on some type of a low-carb diet at some point in their life. I, personally, have gone through my own no carb days. Yes, you read that right – NO CARBS. Try that for about a week and you’ll feel like death, especially if you’re working out. I did it for 6 months at a time. Totally. Ridiculous.
Never again. I have learned my lessons.
Now, I consider carbohydrates essential. If you are healthy, if you are physically active (you do not spend your day sitting on a couch), you need carbohydrates in your life! You will lose fat, build muscle and feel better doing it!
Carbohydrates are main source of energy for humans, so if you are reading this then you need carbohydrates. When you eat carbs they are digested and broken down in your body into smaller sugar molecules. These molecules are stored in your liver to fuel your daily activity! Your brain and your body both need these molecules to function optimally!
What are some good sources of carbs?
Obviously, vegetables and fruits are great sources of carbs. Vegetables are filled with fiber and dense in micronutrients.
Vegetables: sweet potatoes, white potatoes, zucchini, squash, eggplant, okra, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, spinach, tomato, cucumber, radishes, onions, peppers, you get the idea.
Fruits: bananas, apples, grapes, cherries, melons, watermelon, pears – etc.
However, do not discriminate when it comes to carbs. Cereal, cookies, ice cream, gelato, candy, pancakes, waffles – etc. All have their place in a well balanced nutrition that will make you both happy and healthy!
