Moving Up Through Positivity
I’m full of inspiration and motivation today and I want to share something with you. This will change your life if you let it.
First off, I want you to know that you are an absolutely amazing human being. You know when you come across an amazing view in nature and it just makes you stop and take it all in. It’s such a powerful and breathtaking and inspirational moment. That’s how I want you to think about yourself. When you look at yourself in the mirror I want you to feel that way about you. Because you are capable of being all of those things. You are so much more important than a view but somehow we don’t usually see ourselves in that way. You are the most incredible being on this planet and you are capable of achieving anything you desire.
So I’m going to be totally real here because I’ve learned that a lot of people need to hear this (including my old self). You and I naturally have a negative bias. We have negative feelings, thoughts, words, and actions. It’s part of our primal software that keeps us away from harm and keeps us alive. In our past, it was beneficial for us to view most things as negative so we would stay away from trying new things, venturing out, and getting out of our comfort zone. It kept us away from all things unfamiliar. Back then it was necessary and it got us far.
However, we now live in a modern world where our survival is pretty much guaranteed. We are free to let go of most of the negativity but sadly it is still a very big part of us. We don’t know any better. It’s just natural. It affects everything we do in a not-so-good way and keeps us from reaching our full potential. We sometimes see ourselves negatively and others as well. We sometimes shy away from opportunities when we know we shouldn’t. But it feels like it’s out of our control. It just happens.
Well, the interesting part is you can learn to make the switch from a negative bias to a positive bias. It’s a skill and you can learn any skill you want. I’ve done this and it is 100% life changing. I see the world in a new way now. I see myself in a more positive way and others as well. I see potential. I see opportunities. I see possibilities. I see no limits.
We may not be able to completely rid ourselves of negative thoughts and emotions but we can absolutely choose what we do with them. You can act on them, which is what most people do, or you can turn that negative thought into a positive one and act on it instead. We can gossip about a person and talk behind their back or we can just listen without responding and think about the positive qualities that person has. You can tell yourself, “You can never do that” or you can tell yourself, “I may not be able to do that right now but I’m improving everyday so one day it will become easy.”
The mind is interesting. It works to complete whatever is floating around in your thoughts. If it’s negative, the mind will go to work making sure that happens. If it’s positive, then the mind will work on that. The mind can be trained just like that body. You can’t expect to get better at working out without working out. You go to the gym, you put in work, and you get better.
Your mind works in the very same way. If you want to improve your mind, your self-image, your self-talk, your body-image, your motivation, etc, etc you have to work on it. Every time you do something to improve your mind it’s like doing a rep in the gym. But it’s a mind rep. Your mind gets stronger with every mind rep. And you have to prioritize time in your day to work on it. Learning any skill takes time and effort and you can do the same with your thoughts, feelings, emotions, words, and actions.
The best part is that it’s so easy to get started.
Step 1: Get pen and paper.
Step 2: During your morning routine, write down 3 things you’re thankful for.
Step 3: Do this everyday
Here are mine…
1) I’m so thankful for my wife that goes 100% for me everyday and the quality time we share.
2) I’m so thankful for the opportunity to help others through LunchBox Fitness.
3) I’m so thankful for incredible health and being able to workout everyday.
That’s it! What’s happening here is you’re starting your day with positive thoughts. When your mind starts seeing positive thoughts everyday, it will start going to work on them. It will start changing the way you think and feel in the morning which will spill over into the rest of your day. You will start listening more. You will start smiling more. You will start to see opportunities where you once saw roadblocks. You will be more out-going. You will be more open-minded. You will have a better self-image and body-image. The list goes on and on.
This is something that you can start right now. It’s so easy and it will change your life in a very positive way. You can do it. I know you can. By the time you become consistent with writing your 3 things every morning, I will write another post about how to continue with your positivity work.
Remember, negativity is natural but you don’t have to let it control what you do or what you get in life. You have the ability to control everything about you. If you don’t like something then learn how to change it. At the foundation of everything good is positivity. It’s much easier to build when your foundation is solid so start from there and work your way up.
