Why did you decide to become a nutrition coach?
I am passionate about helping people, and I am also passionate about food. The two of these passions combined to turn me into a nutrition coach! What do you love most about being a coach?
I love helping people understand how food impacts their bodies and what it takes for them to feel properly fueled - while eating foods that they enjoy. Every single human body is different, and they all have different fueling requirements. It takes some experimentation and tweaking, and I love helping people figure out what works for them in a way that balances looks, performance, and lifestyle.
What’s the most important piece of advice you would like to share with someone who is looking to improve their nutrition?
Be adventurous with trying new food or new food combinations; don't get stuck in a rut. And eat your veggies - use new recipes and try new veggies - but eat them!
What is the #1 most important thing someone should know about working with their own nutrition coach?
Nutrition coaching is a two-way street. You both have to be open with each other about how things are going and what expectations are. You will get the best help from me by telling me the full story. And remember, your coach is always in your court!
How has improving your nutrition changed your life?
By properly fueling my body (eating more food than ever before and upping my carb intake specifically), I have more energy than ever before, and I like how I look. I have struggled with my weight my whole entire life. I dreaded going to my annual doctor appointment when I was a child because I knew the doc would remind me that I needed to lose weight. I have tried all kinds of things - standard American nutrition coaching (low everything; Weight-Watcher-esque), South Beach, Primal/Paleo, eat not much & workout like crazy, etc. And nothing worked consistently and allowed me to keep any recently lost weight off. Once I started tracking macros and eating more appropriate amounts of proteins, carbs, and fats for MY body, the fat started to come off. And my energy started to go up. And I was sleeping better. And I was getting stronger and faster. And then I looked at a picture of myself one day, and I really and truly liked what I saw. That moment was priceless!
How do you workout?
CrossFit! And walking. I would add Pure Barre to the mix if I had the time for it and CrossFit.
Are you married? Do you have kids? Any animals?
My husband, Mario, and I have one fur baby - a spoiled rotten GSP!
Describe the meal you could eat every day for the rest of your life.
This is a tough one... A medium beef filet with sauteed mushrooms, grilled asparagus, and rice with a glass of chianti and followed by 2 squares of Theo coconut dark chocolate.
What is your favorite treat?
Treatssss! Theo Dark Chocolate (all flavors) and Whole Foods Pistachio Gelato. Plus a gluten free raspberry torte I make around holidays (and freeze for later)
What are your favorite TV shows - past and present.
Past: Buffy, Gilmore Girls. Present: Homeland, Vikings, Modern Family, Game of Thrones, John Oliver
Do you have any hobbies?
I love any kind of cooking & baking. My husband and I also CrossFit, hike, and SUP - basically anything active and outside!
What are you most passionate about?
Food!!!!!! Seriously, I love planning for, preparing, and eating delicious food - plus the company that generally accompanies it!
What is something you want others to know about nutrition?
Nutrition is about so much more than simply food - what you eat. It is also about how you eat, when you eat, where you eat. For example, tweaking the setting of your meal - dining room table vs office desk - impacts how you think about and process what you eat. The process is far more enjoyable around a properly set table and with good company than by yourself in front of a computer. Good nutrition is about maximizing your enjoyment from the eating process!!!!
What is the biggest nutrition myth that you would like to disappear?
Fat makes you fat.

I believe a good coach (person, really) should always be learning and growing. And I am excited to see what my clients are going to teach me while they are on their way to finding their best paths for living life.
